Saverio is a qualified Italian lawyer with vast experience in litigation at the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport), before which he has represented FIFA in over 150 proceedings.

After having practised civil and employment law in Rome for several years representing clients before national courts, Saverio redirected his professional interests towards international law. He graduated at King’s College London with an LL.M. in international business law and then experienced the analytical approach to the various aspects related to international sports arbitration of an international research institute. At the Asser Institute (The Hague), he worked within the International Sports Law Centre, carrying out research activity on the CAS, the FIFA DRC (Dispute Resolution Chamber), the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and other sports governing bodies in connection with EU law and global standards.

At FIFA, which he joined in 2017, Saverio worked as a legal counsel within the Players’ Status Department, where he deepened his knowledge of all issues related to employment contracts and transfers and their compliance with the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) and – for the last four and a half years – was a senior legal counsel within the Litigation Department. In this role, he represented FIFA before CAS on a wide range of matters: contractual disputes, governance issues, disciplinary and ethics matters, international registration of minor players and eligibility matters, doping, Third-Party Influence and Third-Party Ownership amongst others.

Saverio has also regularly lectured in several sports law programs (amongst others, the FIFA’s Diploma in Football Law, the FIFA Executive Programme in Anti-doping, the FIFA Executive Programme in Sports Arbitration). Occasionally, he publishes articles on these topics in various specialised sports law journals.

Saverio is an experienced practitioner with a diversified academic and professional background, as well as a deep exposure to the most different themes of international sports law and a thorough understanding of the mechanism of sports arbitration and knowledge of SGB regulations. This profile allows him to offer highly specialised services, in particular in the field of international sports dispute resolution.

Saverio works in English, French and Italian.
